A Cycling Club for Builders by Builders
Combating Mental Health in the Construction Industry

Welcome to Builders On Bikes

Our club has expanded steadily and gained a bit of a following on social media since being founded in 2019.
The founder of the club (Sarbjeet Lall aka Bob) decided to make a positive change to his lifestyle. Having toddler twins running circles around him at home very quickly taught him how badly out of shape he was.
So mid 2019 he took up cycling & hasn't looked back.
Showing physical/mental changes, Bob managed to convince others from the site to get on their bikes.

Whether they are using the bikes for commuting or just enjoy participating in group events or sportives, it was a great way for the lads on site to get together outside of work and have fun whilst unknowingly team building.

The great thing about the club is that it brings all levels of the construction industry together on a level playing field.
To this day, It's still rare to see the senior management mingling with the trades/labourers.
when we are out on our bikes, the hierarchy is out of the window, we're all one.

We’re always happy to welcome new members, whether they’re beginners or advanced, and we invite anyone interested in road cycling to come by and join us for a trial ride.

The club's structure & where are we intend to go with this club?

The club is currently made up of large majority of construction workers, from senior management to labourers. We have some members from other industries who strongly believe in what we are trying to do.

We want to make this club go viral, to spread the message and raise awareness to benefit the industry and its workers.

We are a British Cycling registered Club.

We have already partnered with the UK's fastest growing, top Bike insurance company BIKMO, to offer our club members exclusive discounted insurance.

Our charity partner is Mates in Mind, a mental health charity focused on the construction industry.

There's lots of learning to be done....

What makes this club different?

Unlike the vast majority of the cycling clubs that participate in charity rides & sportive events, we are focused on but not limiting ourselves to supporting construction-related charities.

We will work with charities that provide crucial mental health support to construction workers - a taboo that is often ignored in the industry.

What has mental health got to do with the club?

Mental health in the construction industry is seriously overlooked. There is this brave macho stereotype that is expected of all construction workers. This couldn't be more wrong, because we don't want to fall victim of being name called and bullied on site. We tend not to discuss matters which can often lead to serious consequences.

"Did you know that EVERY single working day in the UK, two construction workers take their own life and that stress, anxiety and depression account for a fifth of all work-related illness" - ...Lighthouse Club...

We want try to do everything possible to break this stereotype, we want people to open up. Construction workers need somewhere to go, and someone to speak to....a chat can make a world of difference.

We currently working alongside Mates in Mind to help break this taboo by raising much need sponsorship funds so they can continue to support the industry.
